About this project
This site features a queryable database of 3D models from AAA games.
It is geared towards modders and other hobbyists looking for high-quality art for their projects.

BLEND as a transmission format
A .blend file isn't necessarily a blender save. The .blend files from this project are library .blend files,
They are minimalistic and only contain the following data blocks:
- Meshes
- Armatures (skeletons)
- Actions (animations)
- Images (textures)
- Materials (an approximation)
- Text (a breakdown of certain parameters)
- A preview scene
They do not contain:
- Workspaces/screens
- they won't change your screen setup when you open them
- Cameras, lights
- Other unnecessary things like brushes
The .blend format has built-in file compression, similar to .zip.
Blender itself has a small footprint compared to other suites, and is the obvious choice for hobbyists.
Animations
Games will often have thousands of humanoid animations tied to the single skeleton that all humans use. These are easy to extract, but don't make much sense in a tag-based image database. If you require human animations from a specific game, or human animations in general, getting UModel is recommended. The highly convenient animation previewing feature makes it much more efficient for browsing the animations. All that's required are the game files and the very small application that is linked below.
If you notice that a particular animation results in the skeletal mesh collapsing into a pile, it's because it is an additive animation. These animations usually consist of a frame or two, and are meant to compliment the other animations; e.g. a character flinching while an aiming animation is playing.
File Hosting
Mega.nz is currently being used to host the files. Megaup.net
was the previous solution, however their 7-day inactive file
erasure was proving to be too much to keep up with. The
trade-off is that mega.nz has a 5 GB bandwidth limit, but
doesn't have ads unlike megaup.net.
Mega.nz is also
perhaps more strict with takedowns.
If you have a suggestion for a better, similarly reliable solution, please email free3dxyz@protonmail.com
